Industrial Ethernet Evaluation Board Supports Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus, And More
Posted by
onRenesas announced their RX72M networking solutions, which reduce the development efforts while using the RX72M for slave equipment for industrial networks; they are available for motor drives at robot terminals, small programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and remote I/O, and more.
The RX72M solution comprises of an evaluation board with operating system, middleware, and sample software supporting around 70 percent of the communications protocols used in industrial network applications. The system allows development engineers to quickly start the creation of slave equipment, such as motor control blocks for compact industrial robots, programmable logic controller (PLC) devices, and remote I/O systems.
The software samples include Industrial Ethernet solutions such as EtherCAT, PROFINET RT, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, PROFIBUS DP, Modbus, RTU/ASCII, CANopen, and DeviceNet.
Key Features
- You can try using industrial network communication immediately with the sample program and evaluation board.
- It has been tested for conformance with the three major protocols (EtherCAT, PROFINET RT and EtherNet/IP).
- Renesys works with proven partners preparing major industrial network protocols in addition to EtherCAT.
Open1768 - LPC1768 ARM Cortex M3 Development Board
The Open1768 is an ARM Cortex-M3 development board that features an LPC1768 device as the microcontroller. It supports further expansion with various optional accessory boards for specific applications. The modular and open design makes it the ideal for starting application development with the ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller.
This ARM Cortex-M3 development board, designed for NXP LPC series, features the LPC1768 MCU and integrates various standard interfaces supporting simple peripheral expansions.
Industrial Ethernet Guide - Topology and Communication Features
The following is part of A Comprehensible Guide to Industrial Ethernet by Wilfried Voss. The following information has been compiled with the best of intentions. However, as I have pointed out frequently, a fair and complete comparison of Industrial Ethernet Protocols is challenging.Furthermore, specifications and organizational features may have changed since the time of this writing.I have [...]

Industrial Ethernet Guide - Industrial Ethernet Protocols
The following is part of A Comprehensible Guide to Industrial Ethernet by Wilfried Voss.Note: It is important to re-iterate the point that a sufficiently detailed description of each protocol involved is clearly outside the scope of this book. Complete documents are provided by the respective manufacturers or standardization/user organizations, even though they usually provide little educational [...]
Texas Instruments Introduces MCU With EtherCAT, Ethernet, And CAN FD Connectivity
Texas Instruments (TI) has introduced their F2838x MCU, designed for AC servo drives and other industrial automation devices. The 32-bit MCU is part of the C2000 micro-controller family. The MCU allows designers the utilization of a single chip to achieve serial connectivity, including EtherCAT, Ethernet, and CAN FD. Devices equipped with such communication ports frequently necessitate an external [...]
Industrial Ethernet Guide - World Market For Industrial Ethernet
The following is part of A Comprehensible Guide to Industrial Ethernet by Wilfried Voss.A report, "The World Market for Industrial Ethernet," by the independent UK-based research organization, IMS Research (now part of HIS Inc.), contained data about the total quantity of installed Ethernet nodes. The analyses were divided into regions, product groups, and industries. According to the study, EtherNet/IP had the [...]
A Comprehensible Guide to Industrial Ethernet - Introduction
The following is part of A Comprehensible Guide to Industrial Ethernet by Wilfried Voss. Note: The term “Industrial Ethernet” needs further clarification as it may be interpreted as mere “Industrial-Strength” Ethernet. This book uses the term in reference to “Real-Time Industrial Ethernet” (For many engineers in the automation industry, “Industrial-Strength” is not possible without “Real-Time”). The simple and effective design of the standard [...]
Real-Time Ethernet Slave Interface For Raspberry Pi With ProfiNet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT Firmware Options
The netHAT module upgrades a Raspberry Pi 2/3/Zero to a Real-Time Ethernet capable slave device allowing the exchange of cyclic process data between an RPi application and a Real-Time Ethernet network. The module is compatible with the Hardware Attached on Top (HAT) specification by the Raspberry Foundation. The RPi and netHAT communicate via the internal SPI0 interface. Due [...]
