The CAN-USB/400-FD by esd electronics is a USB gateway module with two isolated CAN Fd ports compliant with ISO 11898-2. The module is powered by an ISO 16845:2004 certified esd Advanced CAN Core (esdACC) implemented in an Altera FPGA, and it is capable of managing of up to 100% CAN busload.

The interface can transmit and receive ISO conform CAN FD (up to 5 Mbit/sec) or CAN Bus 2.0 A/B messages. The CAN FD bit rate range is validated for the esdACC CAN FD core from 10 kbit/s up to 5 Mbit/s.

An additional feature, unique in the CAN Bus marketplace, is the integrated error injection, which provides means to simulate error conditions on the CAN Bus. Bit patterns can be injected into any active CAN network, and several trigger conditions and modes are provided.

CAN layer 2 drivers for Windows are included in the scope of delivery, and APIs for higher layer protocols such as CANopen, SAE J1939, and ARINC825 are available.

This board is a CAN Bus breakout board with Flexible Data Rate (CAN FD) using the Microchip MCP2561FD chip. The output pins are on both screw terminals and a DB9 connector. The DB9 can be configured for use with an OBDII cable, SAE J1939 cable, or CAN Analyser pin-out via solder bridges.
