Industrial CAN Bus Gateway Data Logger, Bridge, And Network Extender With EtherCAT Connection

IXXAT CANnector solution for logging, bridging, and extending Classical CAN Bus and CAN FD networks

HMS Networks introduced the IXXAT CANnector solution for logging, bridging, and extending Classical CAN Bus and CAN FD networks.

The device complements and is compatible with the existing CAN@net NT and CANbridge NT series. Three pre-configured versions are available in addition to a generic stand-alone device (no PC is needed). The CANnector supports the transmission of CAN/CAN FD using the full Ethernet performance. It also operates as a CAN Bus interface connected to a PC via Ethernet.

The CANnector Bridge also functions as a CAN/CAN FD bridge or gateway to connect various networks. It offers frame- or signal-based adjustments with functions such as online floating-point data manipulation and more. The CANnector Log represents a CAN/CAN FD data-logger with trigger conditions, ring buffer, and low-power sleep mode with wake-up per CAN/CAN FD. As the base hardware remains unchanged and loadable configurations provide different functionality, it is freely reconfigurable to achieve the chosen functionality.

The implemented Linux operating system allows the execution of applications and data manipulation directly on the device. The support of network description files enables operation on the signal level. With the wake-up on CAN Bus activity function and the possibility of switching off the Tx (transmitting) function on the CAN Bus transceiver, the device is suitable for applications sensitive to power consumption and safety concerns. The hardware is available with up to eight Classical CAN Bus or CAN FD, two LIN, Ethernet, USB, two digital I/Os, and one EtherCAT slave interface. USB extensions for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are available as an option.

Additional functions enable live data visualization and simulation using mobile devices (smartphones or tablets) via Wi-Fi or cloud connectivity. Consequently, the system supports OPC-UA, MQTT, or the HMS Hub solution. Using the EtherCAT slave interface, it is possible to connect CAN/CAN FD-based networks to industrial Ethernet or a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). HMS/IXXAT provides a free-of-charge Windows-based configuration tool. The connections between the source and the target can be established using a drag-and-drop concept, and CAN/CAN FD network description files can be imported. The standard range of functions can be extended using the integrated development and debug environment, the customized C code, or Matlab/Simulink models.

SAE J1939 Gateway And Data Logger With Real-Time Clock

The SAE J1939 Gateway And Data Loggers are ideal for vehicle fleet management (trucks, buses, agricultural equipment, and any other diesel engine application), prototype field testing, diagnostics, or reverse engineering.

The SAE J1939 Gateway And Data Loggers record SAE J1939 message frames (PGNs) onto an onboard MicroSD memory card and timestamps them with a real-time clock (RTC). Alternatively, it can be used for mere SAE J1939 data monitoring and viewing.

In record mode, the gateway reads the data traffic without being connected to a PC. A free-of-charge Windows software is available for the device setup (PGN filtering, message-sampling frequency, etc.) as well as reviewing and re-playing the SAE J1939 data.

The data file format is Microsoft-Excel-compatible (.csv), and the data file can be retrieved directly from the SD card for further processing.

Furthermore, the data logger offers an optional feature to include GPS information attached to the data.
