Posted by Industry News on

SCI Telematics Hardware & Database

Scale and Control Inc. (SCI) offers a telematics gateway and a database for fleet management purposes. The gateway is also equipped with a CAN Bus interface.

The module offers a dynamic solution for small and large fleet operations. According to SCI, the hardware and software solution will help with reducing maintenance costs. The telematics gateway enables remote monitoring of on-vehicle equipment. It can set alarms and send alerts via email or text to enable immediate action. This includes alarms for over-temperature, low fuel, low oil pressure, and other vehicle data. These parameters are received via the integrated CAN Bus interface. Using the embedded GPS interface, geofencing is possible as well as locating the vehicles. In addition, the gateway is equipped with Wifi and cellular interfaces.

Typical use cases include vehicle tracking, remote diagnostics, predictive maintenance, remote vehicle interaction, etc. The telematics database allows analysis of fleet activity and trends, real-time asset location viewable on graphical or satellite maps, configurable screen based on desired data, and much more on site or remotely.

SAE J1939 - GPS Module With 9-Pin Deutsch Connection Cable

The jCOM.J1939.GPS device connects to an SAE J1939 network and reports the vehicle position (PGN 65267) with a five second frequency, according to the SAE J1939-71 Standard.

The integrated J1939 protocol stack automatically negotiates a node address in the range of 128 to 247. The GPS data is broadcast by using the global destination address (255 = 0xFF).

The device's firmware can be updated on-site per the integrated RS232 port, which also allows the loading of customer-specific features.

The content of delivery includes the jCOM.J1939.GPS module, the GPS antenna (preferred installation location is the driver cabin, i.e. close to the wind shield), and the SAE J1939 cable suited for a 9-pin Deutsch connection.
