High-Performance Rugged Edge Computer With CAN Bus Interface For In-Vehicle Applications

Posted by Industry News on

Karbon 700 High-Performance Rugged Edge Computer

Onlogic introduced its Karbon 700 rugged computer series to serve applications such as a data-logger, network video recorder, or edge device in demanding industrial, in-vehicle, or remote installations. The system also comes with a CAN Bus interface.

Ensuring reliable operation under extreme conditions, the product underwent tests regarding MIL-STD-810G standards to resist damage from continued vibration and shock up to 50 G. The system also satisfies automotive power immunity according to the requirements of E-mark, and EN50155 rolling stock standards. It supports an extended operating temperature range of -40 ° to +70 °C and incorporates a user-configurable automotive power management system with remote power monitoring capabilities.

The voltage input has a range of 9 VDC to 48 VDC and maintains a variety of power protection measures, including transient voltage suppression, over, under, and reverse-voltage and over-current protection. All other I/O is ESD-rated to up to 15 kV, making the system compatible with medical 60601-1 4th edition standards. Karbon 700's onboard user-programmable micro control unit (MCU) provides further functionality and power management flexibility.

The device can be configured with a range of 9th generation Intel processors, including Core i7 or Xeon central processing units. Optional discrete GPU capabilities render advanced graphics processing, while the integrated CAN Bus network plus the customizable DIO give the system a great range of interface and control capabilities. The system supports up to 6 PoE ports, while wireless connectivity is available via Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, CAT M1, or 4G LTE. Additional expansion, VPU capabilities via Intel Movidius, or optional I/O can be added using other companies' proprietary Modbay that enables expandability to meet specific application requirements.

Two K700 models are available, the standard K700-SE, and the K700-X2, which adds dual PCIe slots and support for a range of dedicated graphics cards.

Raspberry Pi 3 B+ System With Dual Isolated CAN Bus Interface

Raspberry Pi 3 B+ System With Dual Isolated CAN Bus Interface

Our Raspberry Pi 3 System With CAN Bus Interface (PiCAN2) comes with a pre-installed Raspbian operating system.

The system is equipped with a PiCAN2 DUO ISO board, which provides two independent isolated CAN-Bus channels for the Raspberry Pi. It uses the Microchip MCP2515 CAN controller in combination with the Texas Instruments ISO1050 isolated CAN transceiver. Connections are made via 4 way screw terminal plugs.

There is an easy-to-install SocketCAN driver, and programming can be accomplished in C or Python.
