CAN Bus Data Loggers For Fleet Telematics, Vehicle Field Tests, Diagnostics, Predictive Maintenance

CAN BUS DATA LOGGERS

CSS Electronics introduced their new line of CAN Bus loggers, the CANedge. The dual CAN logger records raw CAN data (incl. CAN FD) for storage on an industrial 8-32 GB SD memory card. The data is retrieved by extracting the SD card or by auto-pushing the data to a cloud server.

The new CANedge1 and CANedge2 CAN Bus data loggers consolidate professional logging specifications with ease-of-use and low costs. The devices are 100% standalone, meaning no PC is required. The devices utilize bit rate auto-detection, which allows connecting the device to your CAN bus to start logging data without baud rate setup procedures.

The CAN data is stored using the popular MDF4 format, allowing for direct integration in various CAN Bus software tools, which includes a free, open-source GUI/API that lets you edit, convert (DBC), and plot the data. It is also easy to convert the data to further formats such as *.csv, *.asc, *.mat, pandas, and other popular formats.

By applying the CANedge2, data can be automatically uploaded to an internet server via a WiFi access point (e.g., a WLAN router or 3G/4G hotspot). WiFi/server credentials are encrypted on the SD card, and data is securely transferred via HTTPS. The device uses the popular S3 interface, meaning that it directly integrates with major cloud servers (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) - as well as free, open-source alternatives like MinIO. Server files can be managed easily via the CANcloud telematics platform as well as the S3 APIs. The device also enables easy over-the-air configuration/firmware updates.

The series is perfectly suited for fleet telematics, vehicle field tests, diagnostics, predictive maintenance, and more.

All software is 100% free and open-source - with no subscription fees or vendor lock-in.

PiCAN3 CAN Bus Board for Raspberry Pi 4 with 3A SMPS And RTC

PiCAN3 CAN Bus Board for Raspberry Pi 4 with 3A SMPS And RTC

The PiCAN3 board with SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply) provides CAN-Bus capabilities for the Raspberry Pi 4. It uses the Microchip MCP2515 CAN controller with MCP2551 CAN transceiver. Connection are made via DB9 or the onboard 3 way screw terminal.

The Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) allows connecting an input voltage range of 6 VDC to 20 VDC suitable for industrial and automotive applications and environments. The SMPS will power the Raspberry Pi plus PICAN3.

There is an easy-to-install SocketCAN driver, and programming can be accomplished in C or Python.
