Isolated CAN Transceiver With 70-V Bus Fault Protection and Flexible Data Rate (CAN FD)

Posted by Industry News on

Texas Instruments ISO1042 Isolated CAN Transceiver With 70-V Bus Fault Protection and Flexible Data Rate

Texas Instruments (TI) has introduced two more CAN Bus transceivers. They offer ±70-VDC bus-fault protection and ±30-V common-mode voltage range.

The ISO1042 and ISO1042-Q1 help engineers protecting low-voltage circuits and increase communication bandwidth in industrial applications such as grid infrastructure, motor drives and building automation, as well as hybrid electric vehicles and electric vehicles (HEVs/EVs).

Used in conjunction with isolated power supplies, the devices protect against high voltage and prevent noise currents from the CAN Bus network.

They also support an extended ambient temperature range of -40 °C to +125 °C.

The ISO1042-Q1 meets the automotive industry standard (IEC TS62228) for robust EMC. Both transceivers support CAN FD speeds up to 5 Mbit/s with a short loop delay of 215 ns (maximum), enabling faster payload compared to standard CAN Bus transceivers.

PiCAN2 Duo Isolated CAN-Bus Board for Raspberry Pi 2/3/B+

This PiCAN2 DUO ISO board provides two independent isolated CAN-Bus channels for the Raspberry Pi 2, 3, or B+.

It uses the Microchip MCP2515 CAN controller with ISO1050 isolated CAN transceiver. Connections are made via 4 way screw terminal plugs.

There is an easy-to-install SocketCAN driver, and programming can be accomplished in C or Python.

Features

  • Two galvanically isolated CAN channels
  • 70mA 5v output per channel that can be use to power other CAN nodes
  • CAN v2.0B at 1 Mb/s
  • High speed SPI Interface (10 MHz)
  • Standard and extended data and remote frames
  • CAN connection screw terminal
  • 120Ω terminator ready
  • Serial LCD ready
  • LED indicator
  • Four fixing holes, comply with Pi Hat standard
  • SocketCAN driver, appears as can0 and can1 to application
  • Interrupt RX on GPIO25 and GPIO24
