In-Vehicle Fanless Embedded Computer With Isolated CAN Bus Port
Posted by
onNeousys (Taiwan) announced their Nuvo-7100VTC series of rugged in-vehicle computing platforms. They come in several variants: the Nuvo-7100VTC (low-profile chassis with a hot-swappable 2,5-inch HDD/ SSD tray), the Nuvo-7200VTC (single-slot with PCIe expansion), and the Nuvo-7250VTC (super-capacitor based with power back-up module).
The Nuvo-7100VTC is a fanless embedded controller intended for transportation applications. It supports 8 VDC to 35 VDC inputs with built-in ignition power control, wide-temperature operation, galvanic-isolated I/Os. It also comprises one hot-swappable HDD tray with RAID 0/1 support. The controller comes with an assortment of I/O ports with screw lock mechanism and a rich set of internal expansion options. It allows up to eight 802.3at PoE+ ports to supply 25-W power to connected devices such as IP cameras. All connectors have screw-lock mechanisms.
The collection of interfaces include one isolated CAN Bus, one 1-Gbit/s Ethernet, four USB 3.1 (Gen2), four USB 3.1 (Gen1), three video, and four serial ports. Furthermore, by utilizing two M.2 and three mini-PCIe sockets, the controller provides several wireless modules as well as additional CAN Bus interfaces. The EN 50155-certified (TX level) computer also conforms to the MIL-STD-810G (Method 514.6) vibration requirements.
The Nuvo-7200VTC in-vehicle controller comes in a patented single-slot PCIe cassette. A heat-spreader conducts heat from the device to the surface of the module to maintain stable thermal conditions within the enclosure. Accordingly, the controller supports various PCIe add-on cards with an extended operating temperature range from -40 °C to +70 °C.

Raspberry Pi 3 B+ System With Dual Isolated CAN Bus Interface
Our Raspberry Pi 3 System With CAN Bus Interface (PiCAN2) comes with a pre-installedRaspbian operating system.
The PiCAN2 DUO ISO board provides two independent isolated CAN-Bus channels for the Raspberry Pi. It uses the Microchip MCP2515 CAN controller in combination with the Texas Instruments ISO1050 isolated CAN transceiver. Connections are made via 4 way screw terminal plugs.
There is an easy-to-install SocketCAN driver, and programming can be accomplished in C or Python.
