CAN Bus Controller With Two CAN Ports And LIN Bus Master Interface For Mobile Applications

Posted by Industry News on

Wuerth Elektronik ICS introduced their Intelligent Control and Command System controllers ICCS 121P CAN and the ICCS 64P V2 CAN, which both come with two CAN Bus and one LIN Bus ports.

The ICCS controllers support the full CAN 2.0 Standard with 11‑bit and 29‑bit CAN Bus message identifier lengths and bit rates from 20 kbit/s to 1 Mbit/s with the default bit-rate of 125 kbit/s. Both devices can operate as CAN‑to‑CAN or CAN‑to‑LIN gateways, and they support diverse filter functions. The units provide the transmission of sensor information to the CAN network and offer an interface between switches and the CAN Bus. The devices utilize the 16‑bit NXP HCS12XEQ processor with an integrated co-processor.

The ICCS 121P enables direct power supply of loads up to 2 A. Protected power splices with built‑in poly‑fuses are also available. The ICCS 64P V2 performs logical functions or acts as an I/O device. The module can drive loads of up to 2 A per output and has more than 30 inputs of various types. The controller can be connected to the printed circuit board and thus enables the control of the entire system, e.g., relay switching and monitoring of the fuse status via CAN.

The programming of the controllers is achieved through the ICCS SDK Plus software, and Wuerth Elektronik offers support for the program development. The software development kit can be evaluated free-of-charge for a period of three months.

Application Examples

  • Transmission of sensor values to the CAN bus
  • CAN to CAN gateway functions
  • LIN to CAN gateway function
  • Direct power supply of loads up to 2 A
  • Interface between switches and CAN bus
  • Lighting system handling
  • Protected power splices with built-in poly fuses

Teensy 3.2 CAN Bus And LIN Bus Breakout Board

The CAN Bus breakout board was designed for use with the Teensy 3.2 (included in the scope of delivery). It comes with an onboard 5 VDC regulator with reverse voltage protection, a CAN Bus transceiver, and a prototyping area. The LIN Bus connection is provided by the Microchip MCP2004A chip.

The Teensy is a complete USB-based microcontroller development system, compatible with Arduino software and libraries. It comes in a minimal footprint, capable of implementing a great variety of projects. All programming is accomplished via the onboard USB port.
