Option: 9-Pin Deutsch to DB9 Connection Cable
The 1939.BT data scanner represents a programmable, high-performance, low-latency, wireless vehicle network adapter for SAE J1939 applications. It allows any host device with a Bluetooth or BLE COM port to monitor SAE J1939 data traffic and communicate with the SAE J1939 vehicle network. An SAE J1939 cable, suited for a 9-pin Deutsch connection, can be purchased as indicated above.
The scanner supports user-programmable application parameters, such as:
- PGN Filters
- CAN Baud Rate Mode (250k/500k/Automatic)
- Listen-Only Mode (On/Off)
- Bluetooth/BLE Device ID
- UUIDs (BLE only)
These parameters are permanently stored within the scanner module but can be overwritten at any time.
The Bluetooth and BLE capabilities allow an easy connection to tablets and phones running Android or iOS, for instance, as part of an Electronic Logging Device application. See also our post:
The J1939.BT.SCANNER data scanner receives and filters specified PGNs and translates them into a human-readable ASCII string, allowing operation with a simple terminal software while providing a universal and easy-to-establish programming interface. In turn, the data scanner will process data from the host device, for instance, for request messages.
Please feel free to contact us for more information. The expected release date is November 2022, but we can provide prototypes if necessary.

Note that the data scanner board does not support SAE J1939 protocol features. It merely translates PGN data in both direction with focus on data scanning rather than simulating SAE J1939 data traffic. If you need an SAE J1939 data traffic simulator, have a look at our SAE J1939 to Bluetooth Gateway Module, which comes with a free-of-charge Windows software.
CAN Port
The CAN port has an on-board 120Ω (0.5W) termination resistor. This termination resistor can be connected or disconnected via an on-board jumper.
CAN Bus Termination Resistor
The J1939.BT gateway comes per default with a 120 Ohm termination resistor activated. To deactivate the resistor, open the enclosure and locate the pin jumper as indicated in below image.

Automatic CAN Baud Rate Detection
The J1939.BT.SCANNER data scanner provides automatic CAN Bus baud rate detection according to SAE J1939-16 Automatic Baud Rate Detection Process, which requires some special attention when connecting the device to a network. For more information see our posts:
