CompactPCI Multi I/O Board With CAN FD Capability

Posted by Industry News on

EKF SBF-CROSSOVER CompactPCI Serial Multi IO board

The SBF-Crossover from EKF is a peripheral slot card for CompactPCI serial systems, and it provides CAN FD capabilities. The board comes with four single USB 3.0 compliant controllers, and two Gigabit Ethernet NICs, all wired for front I/O.

Also, a PCI Express Mini Card socket is provided onboard, which is useful, e.g. for a Fieldbus I/O module such as CAN FD. Furthermore, a quad port UART is available for EIA-232 or EIA-485 communication.

The device will fit into any PCI-Express-enabled peripheral slot of a CompactPCI serial backplane (PCIe x4 or fat pipe slot recommended for optimum performance).

All onboard devices are based on PCI Express. The front panel USB and Ethernet jacks are wired to individual controllers each, thus achieving the full data throughput on all connectors concurrently.

PCI Express System Architecture

PCI Express is the third-generation Peripheral Component Inter-connect technology for a wide range of systems and peripheral devices.

Incorporating recent advances in high-speed, point-to-point interconnects, PCI Express provides significantly higher performance, reliability, and enhanced capabilities at a lower cost than the previous PCI and PCI-X standards.

Therefore, anyone working on next-generation PC systems, BIOS and device driver development, and peripheral device design will need to have a thorough understanding of PCI Express.

PCI Express System Architecture provides an in-depth description and comprehensive reference to the PCI Express standard.

The book contains information needed for design, verification, and test, as well as background information essential for writing low-level BIOS and device drivers.
